The Story
German artist Michael Hahn created this image as part of a series of posters for a playhouse running Shakespearean plays. This specific illustration was for Macbeth, symbolizing the artist's vision of the three witches (and was intended to be displayed with the witches at the top, reaching down).
The illustration was included in Communication Arts magazine and that’s where I found it. I loved the bold colors and interesting style – and knew it would make an amazing center piece for a large room I was decorating.
I contacted the artist to see if he had a large version I could purchase - he did not. So I took the image to a specialty art service to enlarge and recreate it on canvas. The craftsmen did a wonderful job; but incorrectly assumed the image had the “witches” reaching up, and signed the new piece upside down.
Over the years, I've displayed the piece both vertically and horizontally to meet the needs of the specific room (but again, the original artist intended it to be displayed vertically with the figures reaching down).
I’m currently transitioning through a time in my life where I’d like to be extremely mobile. I still love it, but this piece is simply too big to travel.
